Circuit Connection

The anode of the IR transmitter in this burglar security alarm circuit is connected to the ground supply via a 150 Ω resistor, and the cathode of the transmitter is connected to the positive supply. It is positioned about the IR receiver at a good distance.

The IR receiver’s cathode is connected to the ground via a 10 KΩ resistor, and the anode is connected to the positive supply. Additionally, pin 5 of the LM358 IC—the non-inverting terminal of the op-amp—is linked to the cathode of the infrared receiver.

Two terminals of the 10 KΩ potentiometer are connected to the ground and positive supplies, and the middle pin is also connected to the inverting terminal of pin 6 of the LM358 IC.

The LM358 IC’s pins 8 and 4 are linked to the ground supply and the positive supply, respectively.

Pin 7 is where the op-amp’s output is obtained. The buzzer’s positive terminal is linked to the positive supply, and its negative terminal is connected to pin 7 of the LM358 IC.

Working Principle of Burglar Security Alarm

The LM358 op-amp IC is set up as a comparator in this burglar security alarm project. The infrared transmitter begins to emit infrared rays when the entire system is turned on. The IR receiver’s surface is hit by these infrared rays.

When the rays hit the infrared receiver, which is connected in reverse bias condition, current flows through it. The op-amp’s output will be high because it is connected to the non-inverting terminal of the op-amp.

No alarm sounds because the buzzer is linked to both the op-amp’s positive and output terminals.

The rays falling on the IR receiver are blocked and it stops conducting current when an intruder gets between the IR transmitter and the IR receiver.

Consequently, the non-inverting terminal’s input is lower than the inverting terminal’s input. Because of this, the comparator’s output is extremely low. The alarm will then sound as a result of this setting off the buzzer.
